As the world succombs to Royal Wedding fever, I would like to take this opportunity to introduce members to The Gentle Author, who writes daily about life ‘in Spitalfields at the heart of London’ – the home of Spitalfields silk.  An avid walker, as well as writer, she writes about the goings on in her local environment and and ‘within walking distance of Spitalfields’. She covers everything from from animal and criminal life to the literary and culinary. Every now and again a  textile story emerges.

On the eve of Catherine Middelton’s wedding to Prince William, a walk led the Gentle Author to Kensington Palace where she came across Queen Victoria’s wedding gown, made of Spitalfield’s silk and Honiton lace. I will leave her to tell the story.
