
Auction of the Estate of the late Alina Galasso at Theodore Bruce Auctions

Alina Galasso (1946 – 2009) was an icon of the fashion industry in Australia. Born in Italy, Alina emigrated to Australia with her family in 1952, and after a successful 10 year career as a model, Alina started her own company “Fabric Fantasy”, in 1974. After a few years selling at markets in Sydney and Wollongong, Alina opened her first shop in Ann Street, Surry Hills, in 1978. By 1985 Fabric Fantasy had stores in Newcastle, Nowra and Wollongong, to go with a new larger warehouse at Commonwealth Street in Surry Hills.
The business went from strength to strength, and Fabric Fantasy imported textiles from around the world: Valentino, Marco Lagattolla, Versace, Cuccirelli, and Armani were just a few of the houses that supplied Alina.
Her celebrity client list included Kylie Minogue, Rhonda Burchmore, Jeannie Little, Kathryn Griener, Barry Humphries, Colleen McCullough and Maria Venuti; and she also supplied fabric for Opera Australia, and the films Moulin Rouge, Star Wars Episode III, and The Adventures of Priscilla, Queen of the Desert.
For over 30 years, until its closure in 2005, Fabric Fantasy supplied Australian fashion designers with some of the most beautiful textiles in the world.
The sale includes over 150 lots of imported hand crafted Italian furniture and fabrics including Vitrine, Sideboards, etc. Fine Antiques including Victorian Rosewood Games Table, Georgian Chest of Drawers, Artworks by Lindsay, Corsini, McDougal, Bronzes and Sculptures.
