Otago Polytechnic and iD 2017 are calling for papers for a fashion symposium on Friday 24 March 2017 in Dunedin, hosted by the School of Design, Otago Polytechnic, in conjunction with iD Dunedin Fashion Week.
The traditional fashion system has been significantly altered by the rise of new technologies, but is it dying or in a process of transformation to a new being? What will the future fashion industry look like and what does it need in order to metamorphose into that future? How do fashion schools help students to be adaptable and find their niche in such a changeable marketplace, while also needing to teach them the basics and challenge them to be as creative as they can be in their designing? How does fashion education in diverse countries prepare graduates for an increasingly global marketplace? How can emerging fashion professionals disrupt homogeneity? How can we as fashion industry professionals and fashion educators make our industry stronger? How can we – students, graduates, educators and industry – work together?
Globalisation, technology and digital media, consumer desires, economic anxiety and sustainability are all affecting the fashion industry. Responses by emerging and experienced designers include everything from holding fast to traditional patterns of action through to radical changes in every aspect of the process.
This one-day symposium, Metamorphosis, calls for your ideas about the changes and challenges affecting present and future fashion professionals.
Send proposals/abstracts for 20-25 minute presentations in a variety of formats (e.g. paper, interview, group). Please submit abstracts that include descriptive title, 300 word abstract, 100 word biography as a .doc or .docx file saved as contact’s firstname_lastname by 16th December 2016. Abstracts will be blind peer reviewed for selection.
Please email to – idawards@op.ac.nz
Note: Following Metamorphosis symposium, selected submissions will be invited to submit full papers for an edition of SCOPE Journal.
