Fashion rules, Ok, absolutely

It’s iD week in Dunedin, lots of colour and style and people making an effort, including some CTANZ stalwarts.

At Mint,  Desi Liversage’s critique of fast fashion and Li Edelkoort’s anti-fashion manifesto and adds further to this debate with a collision of stitch, found clothing and colour “Fashion is dead, long live clothing”

Beyond the Anti-Fashion Manifesto: Mint Gallery, 32 Moray Place, Fri 4 March – Thurs 17 March Tue – Fri 10 – 5.30pm, Saturday 19th 10 – 4.00pm, free

Meanwhile, over at the University of Otago library’s Special Collection, Fashion rules, OK, and the buzz at the launch on Friday suggests that so far nobody’s arguing. Elaine Webster has been working with the Special Collections team to retrieve Otago’s fashionable treasures from the library’s trove for display. But more is more, so to add some context, the curatorial team have found supplementary items from other local public and private collections. There’s even wearable art and an exhibition tshirt, and for those of you who won’t make it to Dunedin before it finishes in June, the exhibition will join other Otago Special Collections exhibitions online.

And a little bit more: still at the University, on Wednesday, short talks by Otago University academics on aspects of fashion, including marketing, shows and collecting.
Wednesday 16 March, Room G03, Hunter Centre, Cnr Frederick & Gt King Streets, 12 – 1pm, Free
