Happy 2025 from CTANZ

Hari hou tau. Well, here we are in 2025, looking forward to the year ahead and maybe a bit of summer soon as well after a widely waterlogged start to the year. There’s much to look forward to, starting for members with the arrival of Context, and then of course in May, this year’s symposium. The Fascination team is eagerly receiving abstracts, so let us know what fascinates you; the call for papers closes soon.

As noted, the symposium closely follows the launch of Toitū’s Eden in Dunedin exhibition and Central Otago Couture, the book on the collection by Jane Malthus and Claire Regnault. It seems like not very long ago that our early Dunedin symposium included a bus trip out to see the collection in its original home. But its been restyled and set for a new era.

Claire’s also busy at her day job at Te Papa, which is getting ready for the upcoming Vivienne Westwood jewellery exhibition. She spoke last week to RNZ about the exhibition: https://www.rnz.co.nz/national/programmes/the-weekend/audio/2018970295/vivienne-westwood-exhibition.

So much glitter and glamour to look forward to – but that’s just a small taste of what promises to be another year of textile temptation. Yes, there’s more: another installment coming soon, and our Insta and FB feeds are also worth following.
