The stream of exhibitions keeps on coming, though some of them you have to be quick for. So it is with Arielle Walker, whose PhD exhibition at AUT’s Te Wai Ngutu Kākā Gallery Two closes on 19 July. Mending the Kupenga honours the traditional practices of Walker’s Taranaki Māori and Scottish/Irish Pākehā whakapapa; as the image shows, her ‘whatu-weavings’ connect across all these strands as she looks to – and demonstrates – the pūtahi — places of encounter and exchange. In Dunedin until 26 July, two exhibition mark the Association of New Zealand Embroiderers’ Guilds conference. Bringing together over 300 participants, the conference marks the ANZEG’s 50th year – huge congratulations from your CTANZ friends, ANZEG, that’s an admirable achievement. The conference exhibition, A Stitch in Time, is on display at the Dunedin railway station’s Art Society rooms until 26 July. Also on show at the railway station, the first 27 panels completed for the New Zealand history tapestry project, brought together for the first time, doubling down on the notion of making history.
