The previous post noted Objectspace’s paua shell jewellery exhibition; another reason to get along there in the next few days is that it’s the last week of Strands: weaving a new fabric, curated by Doris de Pont. Highlighting the resurgence of artisanal textile, it features a range of techniques, articles and artists. Viva did a nice and useful piece when the show first opened that’s well worth reading for those of us who don’t get to Auckland that often.

Bling is very much the exhibition theme of the moment. Over at Auckland Art Gallery, Wunderrūma showcases New Zealand jewellery until 1 November, with a programme alongside of weekend talks by contributing artists, while at the Dowse, Areta Wilkinson: Whakapaipai—Jewellery as Pepeha closes 18 October. (The Dowse exhibition on the Meier button collection is on for the summer and Ruth Meier and Rosemary McLeod will be talking buttons, textiles and collecting on Sunday 4 October.)

If it’s not an exhibition you’re after, it’s WOW time in Wellington, and to celebrate, Ngā Taonga Sound & Vision has compiled an hour of Fashion on Film to screen Friday 25 and Saturday 26 September. Nearby at Te Papa, Ngā Toi | Arts Te Papa collections feature tivaevae until October (as does the Auckland War Memorial Museum).
